The Mysore Style Practice originated in the city of Mysore, state of Karnataka in India. This is the original way in which Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga was taught by S.K. Pattabhi Jois, and is still being taught by his family at the same place. In this style of practice, the student receives individual attention from the teacher, learning the sequences of Ashtanga Yoga, posture by posture at his/her own pace. This way, the student has the chance to understand how to practice to suit his own body, and make the most of a yoga program that promotes physical and mental health. Moreover, one develops the ability to practice alone when needed, since there's a greater opportunity to understand the mechanics of each posture for your own body, and how to correctly use breath as fuel for practice and mental clarity.
A student who practices in the Mysore Style gains more awareness of himself, knowledge of yoga practice, understanding of pranayam (breathing exercises) and the opportunity to develop the necessary Dharana (concentration) to move into meditative practices.
The Center is hosting Cel Hemingway for the Mysore Style practice every Monday, from 6-8pm. Students, depending on the length of their practice, can show up anytime between 6-7pm, no later than that.
This practice is suitable to students of all levels of practice and age.
